ACTIVITY IDEAS AND FINGERPLAYS

View The Three Little Pigs VHS. Then watch it again, but this time turn down the volume so that your children can narrate the story.

Have your children classify and count various items. Count the number of girls and the number of boys, the number of children with brown hair, blond hair, black hair and red hair, etc. Make a chart with the results.

My Red Umbrella,Three Billy Goats Gruff, and Nanny Goat And The Seven Little Kids are great to act out as a group.

Read Millions Of Cats. Encourage children to join in on the refrain: Millions and millions and millions of cats." Cut out cat pictures. Have children color them. Then display all over the room for millions of cats.

Have children cut out pictures from old magazines and catalogs to make number and counting books.

After reading Two Of Everything bring in a pot and have children draw pictures of what they would put in the pot. Pull the pictures out and talk about them. What are the disadvantages of having too much of some things? Also practice adding two and two with a variety of objects.

I Can Count
I can count. Want to see?
Here's my fingers. One, two, three
Four and five. This hand is done.
Now I'll count the other one.
Six, seven, eight and nine.
Just one more. I'm doing fine.
The last little finger is number ten.
Now I'll count them all again.
One, Two, Three, Four, Five
Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten.

Three Billy Goats Gruff
Three little goats went walking
(Three fingers held up)
One lovely summer's day.
They crossed a bridge to get some grass
(Three fingers walk up arm)
But a troll got in their way.
They tricked the troll and down he fell
(Diving motion.)
Into the water wet.
Now three little goats are getting fat
(Three fingers held up)
And the troll hasn't come back yet.

Five Little Buns
Five little buns in a baker's shop,
(Raise up five fingers)
Round and fat with sugar on the top.
Along came a boy with a penny one day,
Bought one bun and took it away.
Four little buns, etc.
(Put one finger down)
