READING ADVENTURE TREASURE CHEST KIT #21
EVERYBODY HAS AN IMAGINATION

This Reading Adventure Treasure Chest Kit has been assembled to provide a thematic list of storytime materials for use by enhanced members and their patrons.  The kit is geared toward the preschool age group yet is flexible enough to capture the interest of toddlers and early school age children.  The Activity Ideas are designed to be aids to use the materials listed in the kits.

ACTIVITY IDEAS AND FINGERPLAYS

Read Oh, A-Hunting We Will Go. Make up additional verses for this song and have the children draw pictures for these new verses.

Read If You Take A Paint Brush and then try painting on various types of surfaces such as shelf paper, corrugated paper, plastic table cloths, wallpaper samples, newspaper classified advertisements, wood, cloth and paper doilies.

Read When Cats Dream. Ask the children what kid of dreams they think their pets would have. Then ask them to draw pictures of cat or dog dreams.

Read Pretend You're A Cat and invite children to be the animals described.

After reading The Three Wishes have children tell you what their three wishes would be. They may enjoy drawing pictures of their wishes.

Pretending
I like to pretend that I am a rose
(Cup hands)
That grows and grows and grows and grows.
(Open hands gradually)
My hands are a rosebud closed up tight:
(Close hands)
With not a tiny speck of light.
Then slowly the petals open for me,
(Let hands come apart gradually)
And here is a full-blown rose, you see!

Pretending
I'm a bear - hear me growl!
I'm a lion - hear me roar!
I'm a dog - hear me bark!
As I run out the door.
I'm an elephant - with a trunk.
I'm a camel - with a hump.
I'm a donkey - running races.
I'm a monkey - watch me jump.

If I Could Play. . .
If I could play the piano,
This is the way I would play.
(Move fingers like playing piano)
If I had a guitar,
I would strum the strings this way.
(Holding guitar and strumming)
If I had a trumpet,
I'd TOOT to make a tune.
(Like tooting a horn)
But, if I played a drum,
I'd go BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.
(Like playing a drum)
